Purpua is the author of two collections of lyric essays – On Looking and Increase – and a third collection, Rough Likeness, is due out in 2012. She has won an NEA Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship, three Pushcart Prizes and notable citations in Best American Essays for 2004, 2005 and 2007-09. The author of three books of poetry, Purpura is a graduate of Oberlin College and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She currently is Writer in Residence at Loyola University in Baltimore.
