Megan Bonstein ’06 competing for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year

In January 2009, Megan Bonstein '06 was living her dreams in New York City when doctors told her she had chronic myelogenous leukemia. Two years later, she's in recovery and determined to help others suffering from blood cancers in the New York area. She's one of 12 nominees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2011 New York Chapter Man and Woman of the Year Award - and she needs the Elon community's help to win.

Individuals are nominated by their social and professional peers and compete to raise the most money for LLS, which funds research and services to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. Bonstein’s campaign, “MegaHope: Gratefully Giving Back,” aspires to raise at least $20,000 in donations.

“As a two-year survivor, I have benefited firsthand from the resources LLS offers. I want to take this opportunity to gratefully give back,” says Bonstein, who studied human services and french at Elon and is now pursuing a master’s degree at Columbia University’s School of Social Work.

If Bonstein is selected as the New York Chapter’s Woman of the Year, she’ll move on to compete at the national level.
