Though most news coverage of the Catholic Church focuses on its scandals, the positive impacts of the world’s largest organization can often be understated, which Elon University senior Stephen Ferguson argues based on his research into the emerging public perception of the institution. His work is the latest to be featured in a series of E-net profiles on undergraduate research to be presented during CELEBRATE! 2011.

Shaw University in Raleigh has requested Elon University's assistance for helping to clean up from the damage caused by the tornadoes earlier this month. The Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement has a tornado relief service trip planned for Saturday, April 30.

Dr. Stephen Byrd, program coordinator for special education, presented a paper on “Parent Perspectives of Disability, Special Education, and Disability” at the Council for Exceptional Children 2011 Convention and Expo in Nation Harbor, Md.

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation has donated $15,000 to the Journalism That Matters nonprofit organization to support “Create or Die 2” (http://www.createordie2.org), a design | build | pitch event in Greensboro on June 2-5.

Elon's Center for Environmental Studies is hosting a Wildlife Tracking and Vertebrate Field Survey workshop that will be co-taught by Jim Halfpenny, a nationally-renowned wildlife tracker and carnivore ecologist from Montana, and Josh Kapfer of the departments of environmental studies and biology. The workshop starts Saturday, April 30 and ends Sunday, May 1.
