Black Excellence Awards – April 30

2011 Black Excellence Awards Banquet Keynote Speaker: Frank Haith

Born on November 3, 1965, Mr. Haith is a native of Queens, NY, but grew up and went to high school at Western Alamance in Elon, NC. He and his wife, Pam, have one son, Corey, and one daughter, Brianna.

Mr. Haith graduated from Elon College in North Carolina in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. A Dean’s List student, he served as a student assistant coach for two years for Elon’s men’s basketball team. Haith continued to be an assistant coach at the collegiate level, and success is something that has followed him every where he has coached. In his 15 seasons as an assistant at the collegiate level, he was a part of programs that won one NIT Championship, advanced the NCAA Sweet Sixteen three times, reached one Elite Eight and one Final Four.

Since his arrival in 2004 at the University of Miami, Mr. Haith ushered Miami into the tradition-rich ACC, back-to-back postseason appearances in 2005 and 2006, an NCAA Tournament berth in 2008, 11 wins over nationally-ranked opponents, the school’s first National Invitation Tournament win since 1963, the first NIT road win in school history, and guided UM past the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008 for the first time since 2000. Despite all of the on-the-court success, what could be considered his greatest asset to the program, is his emphasis for achievement in the classroom. In his first six years, 20 of 21 players who exhausted eligibility have earned a degree from University of Miami.

Haith has just signed a new contract and is now coaching at the University of Missouri, where he is sure to lead them to victory. Haith has been the keynote speaker in various highschools and sporting events around the country, as well as at the NIKE conference. He now returns to his alma mater as the keynote speaker for this year’s Black Excellence Awards Banquet.
