Jesse Sheidlower, “Updating the Oxford English Dictionary”

Sheidlower is currently president elect of the American Dialect Society and editor at large (North America) of the Oxford English Dictionary. His current responsibilities focus chiefly on the revision of American and Canadian entries for the OED. In his role as lexicographer specializing in slang and new words, he will speak to the significance of the OED and the challenges in keeping it up-to-date. Sheidlower has written The F Word, an historical look at the world’s best known taboo word, as well as many articles about language in popular and scholarly journals.
