Written by American composer Frederic Rzewski, The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (1975) is a set of 36 variations on a Chilean protest song. A politically charged work, this pianistic tour-de-force captures many of the 20th century’s musical idioms, genres and styles. Shimron will introduce the work to provide an overview of its structure and genesis.
