On Sept. 22, the Women's Law Society (WLA) hosted its annual "Little Black Dress" party. The event creates an opportunity for WLA's leadership to introduce new members to the group.
“The Women’s Law Association hosts the Little Black Dress party as it’s first social event each year,” said Megan Spidell L’12, the WLA’s Social Chair. ”This year we had over 65 people attend. The weather was perfect and it was a great time to meet new students and new WLA members. The Women’s Law Association is looking forward to a great year.”
“The Little Black Dress Party has always been a tradition in WLA because it is a social event typically following our first general body meeting which allows member to meet and socialize with one another, as well as with the law school community as a whole,” said Nikki Catton L’12. “This event is important for recruiting members to our organization as well as getting to know one another and helps us to become a stronger, more unified organization.”
The purpose of the WLA is to create a system of educational, professional, and personal support and development for all individuals who are concerned with women’s issues and the law. WLA focuses on the legal, social, cultural, educational, and political issues facing women on both a domestic and international level, as well as in the law school community.
Upcoming events for the WLA include, Coffee and Conversation on Oct.5, a self-defense class on Sunday, Oct. 23, and a bake sale on Oct. 26-27 to benefit various domestic violence shelters.
