The Elon team of Stephen Azar ’12 and David Krohe ‘12 was named the East Region Runner-up at the Eller Ethics Case Competition, a prestigious national contest hosted by the University of Arizona and featuring many of the top-ranked undergraduate business schools in North America.
The “invitation only” competition now in its ninth year fielded 32 teams. Hosted by the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, the competition exposes students to a thought provoking business ethics case they could face in their professional careers.
This year’s case involved the mortgage industry in Arizona and a hypothetical family. Teams were tasked with analyzing the ethical, financial and legal considerations involved, and creating an ethical solution based on their analysis.
Judges evaluated teams based on the following criteria: presentation delivery, depth of analysis, persuasiveness, recommendations that are both ethical and practical in a business context, and responses to questions.
“It was an exceptional experience to compete for Elon,” said Krohe, a finance major. “We put in a lot of work on our presentation, but I am just excited to have had an opportunity to create a solution that would work to help resolve a portion of the mortgage crisis.”
Assistant professor of business law Christy Benson coached the team and Gary Tsarsis, director of the Reed Finance Center and a lecturer in finance, assisted the team. Many other Martha and Spencer Love School of Business faculty and board members attended practice sessions and provided guidance.
