Kurt Moore named Director of Foundation Relations

As director, Moore will work with faculty to help identify national foundations with interest in funding large projects on campus.

Kurt R. Moore, CFRE, has been named Elon’s new director of foundation relations, a position that allows the university to continue identifying national philanthropic foundations with an interest in funding campus priorities and other institutional initiatives.

Among Moore’s tasks is to form partnerships in which Elon faculty working on large projects, and foundations with a desire to financially support such endeavors, both meet their goals.

Moore reports jointly to Chuck Davis, assistant vice president for University Advancement, and Tim Peeples, associate provost for faculty affairs, and he will work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Moore comes to Elon from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla., where he served as assistant vice president for research and director of technology transfer. In that role, he managed the university’s intellectual property portfolio and was responsible for the commercialization of university research via patents and licenses.

Prior to his latest position, Moore served as interim associate vice president for advancement at Florida Atlantic, personally raising more than $1 million in gifts, grants and expectancies in the 2007-08 academic year. He has experience as FAU’s director of corporate and foundation relations, founding the office in 2006 and raising more than $3.25 million in gifts his first year in the position.

A longtime advancement officer and actively involved with the Association for Fundraising Professionals, as well as the Association for University Technology Managers, Moore’s career since the mid 1980s has taken him to Florida State University, Florida Institute of Technology, Cornell University, LeMoyne College and the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned a Master of Arts in anthropology from Southern Illinois University.

Moore’s hiring represents the most recent step the university has taken as it works toward achieving the goals outlined in the Elon Commitment strategic plan approved by the board of trustees in December 2009.
