John G. Sullivan, Powell Professor of Philosophy Emeritus, has published an article titled “Markers in the Stream,” in the Fall 2011 issue of Itineraries, the electronic journal of the North Carolina non-profit, Second Journey. The essay contrasts two initiations: The “Initiation of Fire” into Adulthood and the “Night Sea Journey” into Elderhood.
