Economist David Blanchflower to discuss financial future ­on Feb. 29

David Blanchflower P’13, professor of economics at Dartmouth College, will be visiting Elon as an LSB Executive-in-Residence to discuss the future outlook of our economy on Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the LaRose Digital Theatre. This event is co-sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon.

About Dr. David Blanchflower
David Blanchflower is currently the Bruce V. Rauner Professor of Economics at Dartmouth and a part-time professor at the University of Stirling in Scotland. From 2006 to ­2009 he was a Member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England where he spotted the recession well before the rest of the MPC. The Guardian newspaper even called him the Bank of England’s biggest dissenter – the ‘Threadneedle One’. In the Daily Telegraph Great Britons of 2008 awards Dr. Blanchflower was named “Business Person of the Year.” He has been awarded three honorary doctorates and in 2009 was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).

Dr. Blanchflower was previously a Research Officer at the University of Warwick and a Lecturer at the University of Surrey, both in the UK. He is currently a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in Cambridge, Mass.; a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Studies (CESIFO) at the University of Munich in Germany; Program Director at The Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) at the University of Bonn in Germany and a visiting scholar at the Reserve Bank of Boston. He is the economics editor of the New Statesman, an economics columnist at the Guardian and a Bloomberg TV contributing editor.
