Alex Spitz, a junior economics major, has been accepted to the 2012 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) International at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany.
UROP International is designed for students from North American universities who wish to gain research experience by conducting research projects at RWTH Aachen University. The program takes place during the summer and involves an intensive German language course, German culture course and research internship.
“RWTH Aachen University is one of Germany’s very best schools,” said Thomas Tiemann, Jefferson Pilot Professor of Economics. “Elon’s Department of Economics is proud of Alex and happy that he will have this exciting opportunity to work with top scholars while learning about a different culture.”
Spitz’s research project will be “Macroeconomic Analysis of the Need for Urban Development Funds.”
“I’m excited to have a hands-on opportunity in the field of economics and to apply what I have learned at Elon,” said Spitz. “This is the perfect chance for me to experience something new and to challenge myself. I’m looking forward to working hard, having fun and living in Europe.”
