Faculty and staff donors gathered to celebrate the success of the annual giving campaign, which ends May 31.
At a donor reception, campaign co-chairs Rhonda Belton, director of application technologies, and Paul Miller, professor of exercise science, presented President Leo M. Lambert with a check for $321,374 that has been raised so far to support scholarships, the Elon Experiences programs, academic departments and schools and Phoenix athletics among other priorities.
Belton announced that as of Tuesday, May 1, 756 faculty and staff, or 62 percent, had made gifts to the university this fiscal year, which sets a new record in giving. Last year’s record was 60 percent participation.
“We’re not finished yet,” Belton said. “Our goal is 65 percent participation this year, and we are about 30 gifts away from meeting that goal.” All gifts made by May 31 will count as part of the annual giving campaign. Approximately $160,000 of the campaign total has been raised to support scholarships, Miller said.
“This campaign has been phenomenal,” Miller said. “I’ve been particularly proud of the support that we’ve seen for student scholarships. This support has a big impact in our classrooms and in our community.”
President Lambert thanked all employees for participating in the campaign.
“It has been a marvelous success and it speaks volumes about the commitment of faculty and staff to this university,” he said.
The president was gratified by the generous support for scholarships among faculty and staff, who help make an Elon education possible for deserving students.
“Financial aid has never been more important than it has been this year,” he said. “Student scholarships come to them in many forms and many students are supported by programs like this.”
The president also noted how proud he is to share the high level of philanthropic support among faculty and staff with donors and others when he travels for the university. “That is just flat out impressive,” he said.
