The Center for Environmental Studies, the Environmental Studies Department, and the ENS 275 (Garden Studio) class invite you all to an Heirloom Plant Sale and Strawberry Festival at the Elon Community Garden on Friday, May 4, from 3 – 6:30 p.m.
There will be fresh local strawberries to dip in chocolate, strawberry lemonade, ice cream and some innovative baked goods.
Our plant sale will feature a selection of heirloom vegetables for your summer gardens, which have all been grown from seed in our greenhouse. All plants are seeded in our own ENS signature blend of sea kelp potting soil and “Elon Compost.” Many of them come in small containers made of composted cow manure and can go right into the ground, as is, making your plants happy and feeding your soil.
Quantities vary, but in tomato varieties we have Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Hawaiian Pineapple, Amazon Chocolate, and a few of the rare Paul Robeson Harlems. In cucumbers we have Lemon Cukes, and a rare Chinese variety that produes white, round, cukes called “Dragon’s Eggs.” We also have several flavors of basil, ranging from lemon/lime to cinnamon.
While the Elon Community Garden is not USDA certified organic, all our plants are grown in compliance with organic standards. If you have any questions call or email Michael Strickland (x5625) mstrickl@elon.edu.
