Elon Law Professor and Senior Scholar Steve Friedland recently presented at Poitiers University in Paris, France on the politicization of the Supreme Court. New editions of books about evidence that he co-authored were published recently as well.
Freidland was invited to present a paper at a Poitiers University conference in Paris, France, in early June, titled, “The Immutability of American Constitutional Law: From the Science of Stare Decisis to Intersubjectivity.” The paper was about the politicization of the Supreme Court and the contrast between the objectivity of the doctrine of stare decisis and the purported subjectivity of the justices in recent important cases. The paper will be published by Poitiers University.
Friedland chaired the Moderator Committee of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) annual meeting, held from July 29 to August 4, 2012. At the SEALS meeting, Friedland moderated a panel, “Binary Searches and the Law,” and participated in two discussion groups, Criminal Law Pedagogy and Workshop on Course Design. As part of the pedagogy panel, Friedland wrote a short paper, “Role Reversal: Promoting Student Questioning Techniques in a Criminal Law Course,” that will be published in the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law.
After becoming one of three people elected to the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Board of Trustees this year, Friedland started his term of service in August.
