Elon Law Professor Catherine Wasson has co-authored an article published in the Touro Law Review that applies research in psychology to teaching evaluation practices in legal education.
In the context of legal education, Wasson’s article discusses the “Dunning-Kruger effect,” named for research produced by Cornell University psychology professor David Dunning and New York University business professor Justin Kruger.
Wasson co-authored the article with Barbara Tyler, Professor Emerita and former Director of Legal Writing, Research and Advocacy at Cleveland Marshall College of Law. In their article, the authors suggest that research on the Dunning-Kruger effect reinforces calls for the legal academy to rethink approaches to gathering student evaluations as well as the purposes of such evaluations, and to find new ways to obtain student feedback that increases its value in improving teaching in law schools.
