High school math & science competition to be held at Elon

The Technology Student Association will hold an annual competition high school students next month with Elon University welcoming local teams to a regional contest on campus. The theme of this year’s contest is “securing cyberspace.”

The registration deadline for TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) from Alamance and surrounding counties is Feb. 7. Assistant Professor Sirena Hargrove-Leak is coordinating the event.

Where: Oaks Commons, Room 212, Elon University
When: February 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Who: TSA TEAMS Competition, teams of 4 to 8 high school students of all grade levels

The TEAMS program is an annual high school competition challenging students to work collaboratively and apply their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real everyday engineering challenges.

The TEAMS Competition helps develop “STEM-capable” students in an engaging way by showing them how math and science, with an engineering focus, are used to make tangible differences in the world.

The Technology Student Association is a national, non-profit organization for middle and high school students with a strong interest in technology. Since TSA was chartered in 1978 over 2,000,000 students have participated.
