The National Jurist ranked Elon University School of Law #1 in the nation for the smallest class sizes for first-year law students.
In developing its report on small class sizes, The National Jurist looked at class-size data from the 2013 edition of the Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools. The magazine found that the national median for typical first-year class size is 72, while Elon Law has the smallest class sizes for first-year students in the country with a median of 30 students per class.
Elon Law dean George R. Johnson, Jr. commented in the October 2012 edition of The National Jurist that small class sizes can be helpful to entering students who are making a significant life transition to law school. He also noted that small class sizes can contribute to success in internships and employment.
“Practitioners and employers tell us that our students display a kind of confidence and readiness to enter the world of work,” Johnson said. “And we think a lot of it has to do with the opportunities that our students have with these small class sizes. It translates nicely into internships and the world of work.”
Other law schools noted for median first-year class sizes of 40 and under included Penn State University, University of Tulsa College of Law, University of New Mexico, University of Oklahoma College of Law and University of La Verne College of Law.
In July, The National Jurist selected Elon Law as one of America’s 20 most innovative law schools.
