From the Southern Pines Pilot (7/16/13): Harsh words and bitter feelings over Moore County being added to legislation that would give control of school construction to the county commissioners have subsided somewhat this week.
Moore County’s last-minute inclusion in a bill last week touched off a war of words between the chairmen of the county commissioners and the school board.
Questions have also been raised about whether the county commissioners violated the state’s Open Meetings law by the way they agreed to be included in the bill, whose fate in the N.C. General Assembly is still undecided.
County officials say they did nothing illegal. Nick Picerno, chairman of the Moore County Board of Commissioners, said Tuesday he was “infuriated” over comments last week by school board Chairman Ed Dennison that he pressured state Rep. Jamie Boles to include Moore County in the legislation.
