Charlotte Observer: Judge dismisses public records suit filed against Carolinas Healthcare System

From the Charlotte Observer (7/22/13): A judge has dismissed a lawsuit alleging that Carolinas HealthCare System, one of the nation’s largest public hospital systems, has broken the state public records law.


Gary Jackson, the Charlotte lawyer who filed the lawsuit, says he will appeal that ruling to the N.C. Court of Appeals.

The suit revolves around a confidential settlement that Carolinas HealthCare won in a court complaint that it filed against the former Wachovia Bank.

Carolinas HealthCare, a multibillion-dollar public system that runs Carolinas Medical Center and more than 30 other hospitals, filed suit against Wachovia in 2008, accusing the bank of breaking a promise to put the system’s money in low-risk investments.
