Faith Rivers James featured in Elon’s 2013 President’s Report

Professor of Law and Director of Leadership Programs Faith Rivers James is one of 10 faculty members featured in the university's 2013 President's Report. 

The President’s Report includes an introduction from university president Leo M. Lambert.

“Elon University’s talented faculty are committed to creating high-impact learning experiences in the classroom and beyond,” Lambert says. “That commitment includes serving as intellectual role models for students, producing important scholarship and creative works and participating in professional activities as leaders in the academy.”

The profile in the President’s Report on Rivers James focuses on her teaching and scholarship involving the development of law students as leaders in the legal profession and in the communities where they will live and work.

“Lawyers are leaders for their clients every day,” Rivers James says in the report. “Every time a client presents with an issue, they are looking to you for advice.”

Rivers James teaches Legislation, Nonprofit Organizations, Property, and Public Law & Leadership, a course she created at Elon Law. Previously, Rivers James taught at Vermont Law School, where she was a member of the Environmental faculty and fellow of the Land Use Institute. She began her law teaching career as a Visiting Assistant Professor at University of South Carolina School of Law in 2005 and taught in the master’s in public administration program from 1999 to 2002.

Rivers James received a bachelor’s degree in government and sociology from Dartmouth College (1987) and a Juris Doctorate from the Harvard Law School (1990). She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the North Carolina Bar Association, where she serves on the Citizen Lawyer Committee and the Real Property Section’s Legislative Committee.
