Venkatesh is author of vivid narratives (“Floating City” and “Gang Leader for a Day”) that describe the characters and encounters he experienced while embedded within underground communities in New York City and Chicago. With more than a decade of fieldwork, Venkatesh draws from his relationships with gang members, police officers, drug dealers, prostitutes and bystanders.
