Heather Scavone presents on laws effecting refugees and asylees at immigration conference

Elon Law Professor Heather Scavone recently spoke at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network’s Bi-annual Conference on Effective Representation of Refugees and Asylees in Dallas, Texas.

Scavone presented on the following topics at the conference:

  • The Nooks and Crannies of Asylum Practice: The Clock, Nunc Pro Tunc and Credible Fear

    This presentation provided an overview of frequently encountered immigration issues that are specific to asylum practice, covering a range of topics including an update on how the “asylum clock” works, now that the settlement agreement has taken effect. The presentation also took an in-depth look at how and when to file for Nunc Pro Tunc asylum and included a discussion of recent trends with the credible fear process.
     

  • Eligibility for Adjustment of Status for Asylees and Refugees 

    This presentation covered the basic eligibility requirements for adjustment of status for asylees and refugees, as well as what documents to submit and how the application process works.
