Fayetteville Observer: A bill making state government records related to military base realignment a secret unamimously passed the General Assembly Wednesday and is headed to Gov. McCrory. The information will become public after federal officials announce realignment decisions.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that SB 614 unanimously passed both houses and was presented to the governor on Wednesday. The bill allows the Military Affairs Commission, a state entity made up of elected and appointed officials and member of the military and that serves as a liason between the state and the military, to withhold records and have closed meetings related to base realignment and closure (BRAC).
The Military Affairs Commission’s records related to realignment and closure would become public once the federal government announces which bases will be effected.
An earlier attempt to make the same information secret was included in a regulatory reform bill, SB 493, which has stalled in committee.
