Charter school refuses to turn over salary information to state

StarNews: The same information was the subject of a public records request from the StarNews, which has since sued to get access.

Charter Day School, Inc. in southeast North Carolina operates several charter schools. As part of its agreement with the state to obtain a charter it must report financial data to the Department of Public Instruction, as well as abide by the N.C. Open Meetings Law and N.C. Public Records Law.

The reporting deadline for finacial data was Wednesday.

The school declined both the newspaper’s and the state’s request to share salary information of top level administrators at the school who are contracted through a separate entity, Roger Bacon Academy. Roger Bacon Academy is a for-profit corporation that was founded by the same businessman who setup Charter Day School, Inc.
