The professor of human service studies and coordinator of the university's Public Health Studies program traveled to Houston in October to share findings of her research with collaborators from the consortium, Duke University and Elon University.
Professor Cynthia “Cindy” Fair in the Department of Human Service Studies made two presentations in Houston on Oct. 1, 2014, at the annual Health Care Transition Research Consortium Research Symposium.
The first presentation, “Health Care Transition Outcomes: A Delphi Stage 3 Survey,” explained findings of work by Fair and other colleages from the Health Care Transition Research Consortium. The group concluded that “some variability exists in the ranked importance of specific … outcomes across disciplines and geographic locations.”
The second presentation, “Congruence of Transition Perspectives Between Adolescents with PHIV and their Guardians: An Exploratory Qualitative Study,” detailed work with Elon alumna Becca Goldstein, and Rachel Dizney with Duke University Medical Center. The team sought to measure how the perspectives of youth living with perinatally acquired HIV align with those of their caregivers as they relate to the transition from pediatric to adult medical care.
Their findings suggest that “providers should assess congruence of adolescent and guardian perspectives with special attention to expectations for level of involvement in transition-related decisions.”
