Student awarded grant for summer international leadership opportunity

First-year student Gabby Vance will travel to Prague this summer for the Global Leadership Program.

First-year student Gabby Vance has been awarded the Sullivan Foundation Leadership Exchange grant to attend the Global Leadership Program (GLP) in Prague, Czech Republic, in July. Vance, a Political Science major with minors in Leadership Studies and Business Administration from Millersville, MD, will be one of approximately 40 students from around the world learning about global leadership.

While in Prague, Vance will take classes from international scholars, participate in workshops and cultural activities, travel on field trips (including one to a concentration camp in Terezin), and engage in community service.

“I have the utmost passion for helping others,” Vance said. “By living, learning, and leading with students from all around the world, I will gain insight and grasp knowledge about leadership unlike I have ever before.”

In support of the university’s initiative to create global citizens and informed leaders for the common good, the Center for Leadership awards this grant on behalf of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, which seeks to cultivate social entrepreneurship skills in university students. Established in 1999, GLP is an educational opportunity dedicated to provide young people with the skills and opportunities they need to become active and responsible citizens in the global community.
