Phoenix women accept WNIT bid

The women's basketball team will play Virginia Tech in the opening round this Thursday, March 17.

After an 18-12 record this regular season, including an 11-7 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play, the Elon women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the 2016 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Elon will play at Virginia Tech in the first round at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 17, in Blacksburg, Va. If the Phoenix advances, the second round will take place March 19-22. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for Virginia Tech students and anyone under 18. This marks the second straight appearance for the Phoenix in the WNIT and fourth overall post-season appearance at the Division I level.

The Postseason WNIT features 32 first-round games, beginning Wednesday through Friday, March 16-18. The event culminates Saturday, April 2, with the championship game, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 3 p.m. ET. The event offers 32 automatic berths, one to each established conference, and 32 at-large berths.
