Elon Law named among best law schools by Princeton Review

The influential college guide lists Elon Law in its 2017 edition of "The Best 172 Law Schools," which featured feedback from an 80-question student survey.

For the second year in a row, Elon University School of Law has been named one of the nation’s best law school’s in an influential guidebook published by a leading test prep and college admissions services company.

The Princeton Review’s 2017 “The Best 172 Law Schools” guidebook features Elon Law and describes the school as “an emerging talent” that “emphasizes leadership in the community.”

“We chose the 172 schools in this cohort based on our high regard for their academics and our assessment of institutional data we collect from the schools,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review Senior VP-Publisher. “We also solicited and greatly respect the opinions of 19,400 students attending these schools who reported on their experiences at their schools on our 80-question student survey for the book.”

The Princeton Review’s survey asked students at the 172 law schools about their school’s academics, student body, and campus life as well as about themselves and their career plans. The student surveys that were used for this edition were all completed online at http://survey.review.com and conducted during the 2015-16, 2014-15, and 2013-14 academic years.

Among the student quotes showcased in Elon Law’s online profile:

Students say that they are confident that the administration has a “progressive understanding of what the profession wants from law students,” and “is not hesitant about accommodating those needs in the curriculum.” Largely, students “strongly believe Elon’s new push for experiential education is cutting edge, and will put Elon at the forefront of legal education in the next ten to twenty years.” …

Students speak warmly about their professors who “genuinely care about the students’ success and grasp of the subject matter” and “make sure they are accessible outside the classroom for questions.” Some even “go out of their way to develop mentoring relationships with students.” …

Students say that “despite the serious talent at Elon, there is an overwhelming humility,” without the “toxic environment” that some may associate with law programs. People “of all walks [of life] are welcome,” one current student told us, “as are diverse viewpoints.” “The Elon University undergraduate campus has a slogan of ‘bELONg,’” one student recalls, “and I think that has carried over to the law school.”

Elon University School of Law is the nation’s preeminent school for engaged and experiential learning in law with a 2.5-year, seven trimester curriculum anchored by a residency-in-practice and logically sequenced program of professional preparation. The program’s overall cost is below the national average for private law schools and, combined with merit-based scholarships for more than 80 percent of each entering classes, provides students with an exceptional value.
