Jimmy E. Carter, Telecommunicator

Jimmy Carter is a native of Durham. He received his degree in Athletic Administration and previously worked for Cary’s Parks and Recreation Department. In his free time, Jimmy enjoys lawn care, working with senior citizens, music, reading, travel and spending time with his wife, Melanie, and son Jameson.

Curt Cignetti, Head Football Coach
Curt Cignetti hails from Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of West Virginia University, where he studied business finance. He previously worked for Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In his free time, he enjoys golfing as well as spending time with his wife, Marette, and children Curtis, Cary and Natalie.

Faith Hall, Campus Safety
Faith Hall joins Elon’s security team after working in the Alamance  County Sheriff’s Department. Originally from Yanceyville, Faith enjoys running, playing softball, hunting,and spending time playing with her son, Hunter. She hopes that the opportunity to serve the Elon community will allow her to further her career in law enforcement.

Shawn Cornelius Hawkes, Bus Driver
Shawn Cornelius Hawkes is from Oxford. Before joining Elon’s staff, he worked for Greyhound. In his spare time, Shawn enjoys working on vehicles, watching movies and traveling. Shawn lives with his partner, Louella, and has two children, Terrance and Shawna.

Kara Holden, Assistant Professor of Education
Kara Holden is from Hamburg, N.Y. She completed received a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, and a master’s degree and doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Previously, Kara worked in the Wake County and Guilford County school systems as well as at UNCG. She decided to work at Elon because she feels as though Elon is a community that shares in her vision and passion as a teacher and scholar. Kara lives with her husband, Brian Sr., sons Brian Jr. and James and their golden retriever, Bernie. In her spare time Kara enjoys running, cycling, cooking and playing with her children.

Susan Purvis Hollan, Adjunct Professor of Marketing
Susan Purvis Hollan grew up in Burlington and is looking forward to sharing what she has learned as an international business leader with students in her hometown. Susan has a daughter, Ashley, and many rescue animals at home. Her hobbies include marketing, antiquing, writing, spending time with animals and gardening. 

Genevieve Lipp, Adjunct Professor
Genevieve Lipp is originally from Houston. She received her bachelor’s degree and doctorate from Duke University. Previously, she worked for the Center of Instructional Technology at Duke. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Allan, and cats Bacchus and Vesta. She also enjoys singing and is a soprano in the North Carolina Master Chorale.

John A Miles, Mail Clerk
John Miles is originally from Gibsonville. He attended Alamance Community College and previously worked at Elon. In his free time, John enjoys spending time with LaDonna, his daughter, and cycling. He looks forward to returning to Elon because of its family atmosphere.

Sumeyye Pakdil, Adjunct Faculty in Religious Studies
Sumeyye Pakdil is from Turkey and received her doctorate from the University of Iowa. She lives with her partner, Boris Keggin, and 5 year-old daughter Zeyneppia. Sumeyye’s hobbies include cooking, running and reading.

Michael Shanahan, Assistant Football Coach
Michael Shanahan received his Masters of Education in social studies as well as his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Pittsburgh. His hobbies include golfing and reading.

Kathy Staiger, Dispatcher
Kathy Staiger is from Rugby, N.D. She lives with her partner, Bob, and cat Lexi. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, going to the beach, traveling and fishing.

Michael Tourek, Adjunct Professor
Michael Tourek is from Omaha, Neb. He currently resides in Greensboro with his wife, Sara, and children Grace (6 years-old) and Isaac (3 years-old). He earned his Masters of Fine Arts degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music Theatre and Dance.

Tony Trisciani, Defensive Coordinator of Football
Tony Trisciani is from Manchester, N.H., and earned his degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts. He lives with his wife, Julie, children Hannah (17 years-old) and Shane (20 years-old) and dogs, Champ and Odin. In his free time, Tony enjoys playing golf.

Elon’s Newest Arrivals

Adjunct assistant professor Renay Aumiller and Dave Yearwood welcomed sons Milo David and Oliver Forrest on Dec. 30.

Eric Hall, professor of exercise science, and wife Katherine welcomed daughter Gemma Violet on Dec. 24. She joins big brother Spencer.
