Triad Business Journal highlights career of Elon trustee Allen Gant Jr.

Allen Gant Jr. is the CEO of textile company Glen Raven Inc., and is preparing to step down from the role later this year.

Allen Gant Jr., a longtime supporter and trustee of Elon University, is featured in the cover story of the August 4 edition of the Triad Business Journal.

The regional business publication offers insights into what Gant has meant to the privately held Glen Raven, Inc., a 137-year-old Alamance County company, as well as the contributions he has made to economic development efforts in the region. Under his leadership, the company has weathered changes in the textile industries to become what the Triad Business Journal calls a “global powerhouse” with 40 locations across 17 countries and 2,800 employees.

One article in the feature by reporter Katie Arcieri titled “Everything He Touches, He Thinks Big,” includes comments from Elon University President Leo M. Lambert, who notes that Gant has the ability to “see far down the road” and a gift for keeping a group focused on a goal.

Gant joined the Elon Board of Trustees in 1997 and was elected chair in 2007, playing a key role in the development of the most recent strategic plan for the university, The Elon Commitment. He was honored by Elon with the Frank S. Holt, Jr. Business Leadership Award, the university’s highest honor for business leadership, in 2010, and later that year received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Elon. Gant served as the co-chair of the successful $107 million university fundraising campaign.
