Elon Athletics honors 2019-20 athletics seasons with virtual banquet

The annual celebration of Elon's scholar-athletes was held online throughout the day on Monday, May 11.

The Elon University Department of Athletics held its 46th annual athletics awards banquet on Monday, May 11, to recognize and remember many of the outstanding achievements of the 2019-20 school year.

On March 13, the COVID-19 pandemic forced all athletic events to be canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, and meant this year’s annual awards banquet was held via social media. The celebration still stuck to tradition with addresses to student-athletes from Director of Athletics Dave Blank, each of the department’s head coaches and Elon University President Connie Ledoux Book to close out the day. All of Elon’s senior student-athletes were also commemorated with a staple of the Elon Banquet, the senior slideshow.

With spring sports not able to complete regularly-scheduled campaigns over the course of the last two months, the Stein H. Basnight Outstanding Athlete of the Year honors were not awarded for 2019-20. The department’s other major awards – the A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete and the Robert C. Browne Memorial Sportsmanship awards – were also not awarded for the 2019-20 academic year.
