Winter Weather Advisory in effect

The National Weather Service is warning of icy conditions through noon on Sunday, Feb. 14

UPDATE: Ice and branches are falling out of trees on campus and causing hazardous conditions. Use extreme care and stay away from wooded areas. Power is out in some areas of the surrounding community. Please charge devices to prepare for potential power outages on campus.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Alamance County and the surrounding region until noon on Sunday, Feb. 14. Rain will transition to freezing rain, as temperatures decrease to around freezing Friday morning. A light glaze mainly on elevated surfaces will result. Temperatures will rise to just above freezing, with periods of drizzle midday. Light freezing rain will redevelop as temperatures cool to just below freezing once again Friday night, with up to 1/8” ice tonight into early Saturday. Yet another period of light freezing rain and drizzle is possible Saturday night through early Sunday. Additional ice accumulations of around one to two tenths of an inch can be expected.

Ice from freezing rain will likely result in slick/icy spots, especially on bridges and elevated roads.

Take care when walking on campus and use caution when driving. Elon Physical Plant crews are monitoring conditions and addressing icy areas as they develop.
