Business majors earn Project Management Institute CAPM certification

The certification requires a combination of academic coursework in project management and the successful completion of a three-hour, 150-question certification exam.

Students in the MGT 430 – Seminar in Project Management course completed certification testing to earn the Certified Associate in Project Management designation in May 2021.

PMI CAPM badgeCertification by the Project Management Institute requires a combination of academic coursework in project management and the successful completion of a three-hour, 150-question certification exam.

Seminar in Project Management is the capstone course within the project management major offered by the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. The course includes case studies and the completion of a comprehensive online project management simulation. In addition, as part of the course, students prepare for and complete the certification exam.

The project management major provides a strong foundation in a professionally-recognized project management body of knowledge, opportunities for skill development as project managers, and experience with the tools and techniques essential for effective project work.

“This past year has been exceptionally challenging, but our project management majors have kept their focus on their academic goals,” said course instructor Matt Valle, professor of management, who holds multiple certifications with the Project Management Institute. “In addition to earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, our project management majors have earned a credential which is immediately recognized around the world as a proven demonstration of project management knowledge and skills. Our work-ready project management graduates provide critical human capital for employing organizations. The CAPM is an asset that will distinguish our students in the job market and enhance their credibility and effectiveness working on or with project teams.”

“I am very proud of all of our certified project managers,” Valle said. “They have proven that they can overcome obstacles and achieve success. They are ready to add value in their employing organizations – they will meet and exceed your expectations from day one.”
