Tony Weaver named Faculty Administrative Fellow

Weaver, associate dean of the School of Communications and professor of sport management, will be a member of the senior staff and will provide strategic leadership and support for the academic and curricular development of Elon’s Regional Centers, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

President Connie Ledoux Book has named Tony Weaver, associate dean of the School of Communications and professor of sport management, a Faculty Administrative Fellow.

In taking on the additional responsibilities of this role for the next two years, Weaver will be a member of the senior staff and will provide strategic leadership and support for the academic and curricular development of Elon’s Regional Centers, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Weaver will collaborate with colleagues to develop an academic infrastructure that is sustainable and supportive of the goals of the Boldly Elon strategic plan. He will collaborate with colleagues across many areas of the university to advance Elon’s programs in Los Angeles, New York, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and potentially other locations. He will also serve as co-chair of the newly designed Regional Center Advisory Council, along with the director of regional centers.

Weaver will join Buffie Longmire-Avital as a Faculty Administrative Fellow. Longmire-Avital is focused on Boldly Elon goals related to mentoring.

Weaver was named associate dean of the School of Communications in 2021 after serving five years as chair of the Sport Management Department. He joined the faculty of Elon’s Sport Management Program in 2004 after serving as assistant athletics director at Siena College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has a doctorate in curriculum and instruction and a concentration in higher education administration from UNCG and a master’s degree in sport management from the University of Connecticut.

The position of Faculty Administrative Fellow position was created by President Emeritus Leo M. Lambert in 2004 as a way to involve senior faculty leadership within the Office of the President on issues of strategic importance to the university.
