Spring events promote understanding of bias education and response

Elon creates an environment that promotes freedom of thought and academic excellence with the help of encouraging and celebrating diverse backgrounds.

Elon celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and experiences and all members of the university community are encouraged to learn and explore.

Bias Education at Elon logoIn any community with diverse backgrounds, bias-related incidents involving language, expressions, behavior and acts can take place, including those that are intentional or unintentional. The university’s Bias Response website is a valuable resource providing information about what a bias-related incident is, who can make a report about an incident and how to file a report.

Identity-based biases are the inclinations or preferences that demonstrate harm, discrimination or hate against a person or groups based on their association with any of (included but not limited to) Elon’s protected categories: race, ethnicity, national origin, faith tradition, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age/generation, disability, socio-economic status and, veteran’s status. These categories are examples and are not an exhaustive list of attributes or characteristics that may be considered identity-based bias.

This spring, the university and the Office of Inclusive Excellence, Education and Development regularly offers opportunities for members of the university community to learn more about proactively reducing identity-based bias and bias-related incidents.
