Director of Elon Poll interviewed by NC Newsline on federal cuts

Husser was interviewed by Clayton Henkel on the weekly podcast "News and Views."

Jason Husser director of the Elon Poll and professor of political science and public policy, spoke with NC Newsline about President Donald Trump’s administration, recent cuts to the federal government and immigration.

According to the most recent Elon Poll, North Carolinians do not favor elimination or major cutbacks at 14 federal agencies targeted for reduction by Trump’s administration and its Department of Government Efficiency.

Husser was interviewed by Clayton Henkel on the weekly podcast “News and Views.”

“We’ve known from the ’70s on that Americans have really low trust in government. We saw trust in government decline after Watergate, after Vietnam and it never really returned. We have seen hyper-polarized levels of support for the federal government in Washington over the last 15 or 20 years or so,” said Husser. “That said, even though people may be skeptical about the government as a whole, when it comes to the specific bureaucracies and the work being done in those agencies, people are often quite supportive. And that’s what we’re finding with North Carolinians.”
