President Connie Ledoux Book shared with the university community about the unexpected loss of Stacey Palmore, assistant men’s basketball coach at Elon, on June 5, 2025.
Dear colleagues,
With great sadness, I write to share with you that Stacey Palmore, assistant men’s basketball coach at Elon, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday night, June 4.
All are invited to the Gill Room on the Schar Center concourse at 4:00 p.m. today for a Gathering of Friends in Stacey’s memory as we mourn the loss of someone who was a colleague, mentor and friend.

Stacey joined the Elon University community in 2022, serving as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. Prior to his arrival at Elon, Stacey was an assistant coach at USC Upstate, Coastal Carolina University, the University of Georgia and Virginia Tech. Stacey also worked with the men’s basketball programs at the College of Charleston, Western Carolina University, Lander University and Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. A 1993 graduate of Livingstone College (NC), Stacey is originally from Greenwood, SC and played basketball and golf at the collegiate level.

Faculty and staff may also utilize Elon Work-Life Resources for support. Assistance is also available from Elon’s Employee Assistance Program through MYgroup, which offers free confidential counseling and other resources to employees and their families. Access Mygroup resources by calling (800) 633-3353 and ask to connect with counseling resources. A counselor will also be available through MYgroup today from 4 to 7 p.m. at a location near the gathering of friends.
Please join me in sending prayers of thanks for the personal and professional contributions Stacey made to this university and this community.
Please keep his son Jaden, and their family and friends in your thoughts, and may they find peace and consolation during this very difficult time.
In sorrow,
Connie
