Lecturer in Economics Devon Hawkins recently spoke with WFMY News 2, the CBS affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina, about JetZero, a California-based aviation company, coming to the Piedmont Triad International Airport.

According to WFMY, the company plans to build a production facility in Greensboro and bring nearly 15,000 jobs. Hawkins told WFMY that this new facility will pump millions into the economy.

“Stuff like this is the type of news that I love to teach from,” said Hawkins. “Because this is the reality of how the economy will absolutely affect you —regardless if you’re one of the 15,000 people that get one of these great new jobs.”

But Hawkins also warns that it could also mean more demand on resources in the area, such as grocery stores and housing.

“We cannot increase the real estate,” Hawkins said. “If we’re bringing a larger population than we can house, we may have some very painful transitions in the housing market.”
