Jazz Festival to conclude with concert Feb. 23

Elon University’s jazz festival for middle school and high school students will conclude with a concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, more than 400 middle school and high school students will work with visiting artists and clinicians Glenn Cashman, tenor saxophone, and Richard Roeder, guitar. Standouts will be selected to return for additional work with the clinicians and to open the free concert on Thursday evening.

The Feb. 23 concert is directed by Elon’s Artist-in-Residence, Jon Metzger. The second half of the concert will feature Cashman and Roeder with the Elon University Jazz Ensemble and Metzger.

Cashman heads the jazz studies program at Colgate University and is known for his work with Stevie Wonder and other jazz artists around the world. Roeder is acclaimed in jazz circles for his virtuosic guitar playing.
