Chaplain Richard McBride honored at Service of Celebration

Elon Chaplain Richard McBride, who is retiring this spring after 25 years of service, was honored at a special Service of Celebration on April 19. At the service, President Leo M. Lambert conferred the title of Chaplain Emeritus on McBride, thanking him for his legacy of spiritual leadership.

Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Hanna Holborn Gray, who served as president of the University Chicago and as provost and acting president at Yale University, will give the James P. Elder Lecture at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16 in Whitley Auditorium. Gray's talk is titled "Education and Utopia."
Music Theatre alumna Connie Renda competes in Prairie Home Companion contest

Connie Renda, a 2003 music theatre alumna, was among six finalists in the "Great American Duet Sing-Off" competition sponsored by Prairie Home Companion, a nationally syndicated public radio program. Renda and her duet partner Elizabeth Brown were featured in a live broadcast April 11.
2007 alumna Chelsea Detrick loses battle with cancer

Chelsea Detrick, a 2007 Elon graduate, died April 9 after a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer. She had been living in the Seattle, Wash., area and was being cared for by her father, Glenn Detrick, who has taught classes in Elon's Love School of Business.
