Elon faculty, students use film series to raise awareness about sexual violence

In a partnership with Elon's community partner Crossroads and with the support of an Elon's Kermode Center Community Partnership Initiative grant, a Human Service Studies Department professor and her students presented a film series on sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking in the United States, as part of an ongoing community outreach program addressing these critical global issues locally.

Contributing author and Elon faculty Carmen Monico celebrates book release on intercountry adoption policy debates

In an example of collaboration between academics and practitioners, Carmen Monico worked with her former dissertation chair, Karen Smith Rotabi, now in the United Arab Emirates University, Kelley McCreery Bunkers, a child protection consultant, and Lucy Armistead, an adoption agency director, in the production of two book chapters summarizing the social literature of intercountry adoption globally, and the U.S. intercountry adoption experience from post-disaster Haiti.

Carmen Monico honored as a Rotary Alumni Association member

In an induction ceremony held Oct. 11, 2014, Assistant Professor Carmen Monico became a charter member of the District 7600 Rotary Alumni Association two years after having served as an Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Research Scholar in Guatemala.
