In Don Dada: Assessing the Socio-economic and Political Power of Jamaica’s Mafia Bosses, Damion Blake, associate professor of political science, investigates the evolution of the don, non-state violent actors who exert influence in the island's garrison communities.

Blake, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science & Policy Studies shares his research and analysis on violence in the Jamaica Observer newspaper. The article is entitled, Gangster's Paradise? Culture and the cost of violence in Jamaica. The article explores how a sub-culture of violence is gripping parts of the island triggering annual increases in gun crimes and homicides.

Damion Blake, assistant professor in political science and policy studies and Faculty Fellow for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity, recently gave a public virtual lecture on policing and race in America during the University of the West Indies #BlackLivesMatter Virtual Seminar Series.

The co-authored research from Blake, an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science & Policy Studies, appeared in the peer-reviewed Journal of Global South Studies.

Blake, an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and Policy Studies, examined the challenges that researchers of violence face as they collect fieldwork data in Caribbean, South and Central American countries.
