Research by three Elon University professors will be presented this month at a European conference that brings together the world’s leading experts on the way creativity affects economic growth. Tom Tiemann travels to Brussels to share work done with Tina Das and Casey DiRienzo on the role of diversity in fueling innovation.

Three student workers in the Center for Environmental Studies worked this spring to not only plant 1,500 trees in local parks, but to share with the local community ways to reduce their environmental impact on the earth.

Four Elon University employees were recognized for superior scholarship, teaching, mentoring and service at the annual faculty-staff awards luncheon on May 13, 2009. Laura Roselle, Connie Book, Glenda Crawford and Keith Dimont were each selected for one of the highest accolades bestowed each year on faculty and staff.

Tripp York, an instructor in religious studies, published a satirical prayer titled "A Prayer to the All-Powerful, All-Knowing and Beneficent God Who Really Loves Sports (but not the Orioles and Some South Asians)" in the Spring 2009 edition of Christian Ethics Today.

Sara Gould, an elementary education major and Honors Fellow; Sandra Flores, a sophomore at Graham High School; and Lorenzo Davis, a sophomore at Cummings High School, presented April 17 at the Johns Hopkins Summer Learning Conference: Summer Changes Everything.

Richard Barnett worked in the White House for the final four years of the Nixon administration, ultimately serving as the presidential communications officer responsible for Camp David, Key Biscayne and San Clemente, where the first family vacationed and lived. Thirty-five years later, Elon senior Amy Reitnouer shares her grandfather’s stories in a documentary screened May 8 in the School of Communications.

Betsy Stevens, associate professor of business administration and chair of the Management Department, had an article, “Corporate ethical codes as key strategic documents,” accepted for publication in the Electronic Journal of Business Ethics and Organizational Studies.

Elon entrepreneurship students visited TS Designs of Burlington, N.C., on April 29. The students participated in discussions with Eric Henry, president of TS Designs, on driving a sustainably focused venture.

Elon’s Program for Ethnographic Research and Community Studies has awarded junior Clementine Wall the 2009 Outstanding Project Award in Ethnographic Research. The award is given each year to a student that exemplifies outstanding efforts and success in conducting ethnographic research.
