Value of faculty research explored in annual program

Is the research a professor conducts “selfish” since it takes away his or her time from students? Or is it “selfless,” a way for faculty to better themselves in the classroom? Earl Honeycutt, the 2008-2009 Distinguished Scholar at Elon, takes the latter view and shared his views April 6 in an annual program for recipients of the award.

His value, he says, is in "bearing witness to what's going on." Cooper visited Elon on April 7 with a trip that culminated in a special afternoon lecture to 2,400 people in Alumni Gym.

Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour visits campus – April 14

Three of the nation’s top young entrepreneurs visit campus April 14 for a half-day conference to help students, faculty, staff and others in the community with an interest in starting their own enterprises. Registration is now open for the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour, presented by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Student Entrepreneurial Enterprise Development (SEED) student group.

Love School of Business earns AACSB reaccreditation

Professor Earl Honeycutt, Elon University's 2008-2009 Distinguished Scholar, will give a presentation tonight in the LaRose Digital Theatre on the role of academic research in a university setting and whether such research is a “selfish” pursuit or an essential activity that allows a professor to remain on the cutting edge of their discipline and mentor future scholars.

Elon alum wins Rotary scholarship

Julie Anne Kenneally '08 has been named the recipient of a 2008 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, an award that will help fund graduate studies on human rights issues at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. It marks the third time since 2006 that an Elon University student has received the honor.
