Leadership Fellows take civil rights tour during historic week

On the same day that the first African American took the oath for the nation’s highest office, Elon Leadership Fellows embarked to the Deep South for tour that connected history to the present. Twenty-three students traveled to Alabama and Georgia during Winter Term as part of a course on civil rights and nonviolence.

Faculty books win national award

The American Library Association has named two books by Elon faculty - a textbook on the Holocaust by professor David M. Crowe, and "Southern Culture: An Introduction" co-authored by assistant professor John Beck - as CHOICE Outstanding Academic Titles for 2008. The annual list reflects the best titles reviewed by the organization's CHOICE magazine and is the top recognition of the academic library community.

The POWERless Energy Competition returned to Elon University this semester for a seven-week contest to see which residence halls can best reduce their electricity usage. The competition began Feb. 17 with a kick-off event at College Coffee.

RecycleMania 2009 results for Week 1

Results are in for Elon during the first official week of RecyleMania 2009, a 10-week competition taking part on campuses across the nation to reduce waste and raise awareness about recycling. Overall cumulative pounds recycled (per capita) on campus is ahead of the data reported by the university last year at this stage of the contest.

Two Elon juniors named finalists for Truman Scholarships

Two Elon University juniors have been named finalists for a 2008 Truman Scholarship, a prestigious national fellowship for graduate study awarded annually “to persons who demonstrate outstanding potential for and who plan to pursue a career in public service.”
