published June 1, 2008, in the (Greensboro, N.C.) News &
Record. The column, "Rate Greensboro's Future," dealt with rating the
preferred future vision of Greensboro and the region on three scales.
Pericles sabbatical assists N.C. Forest Service

Brian Chandler volunteers his time with a local fire department. But
for the month of April, the Elon University HVAC mechanic learned how
to control brush fires that promote healthy forests, and to monitor
logging companies that work near water supplies.
Elon Academy hosts young students from D.C.

Thirty students from an elementary school in Washington, D.C., spent
two days on campus this month as part of a joint program between the
Elon Academy and a nonprofit group dedicated to helping under-served
youth prepare for and succeed in college.
Senior class makes gift to Elon

Members of the Class of 2008, along with their parents, grandparents
and friends, have contributed more than $18,000 to the Senior Class Gift
Campaign for Student Initiative Grants – money that will support
students who want to organize future service opportunities.

Commencement exercises begin May 23 and continue through Saturday as
Elon prepares to graduate its 118th class. Activities for seniors begin even earlier in the week with a class picnic, an evening gala, receptions and dinners.

attended by faculty, staff, family and friends.

share a common ancestor. For the Right Rev. Michael B. Curry, who
delivered the sermon May 23 at Baccalaureate, that bond requires
Elon graduates to leave what he called this “sacred place” and to
always treat others as family.
