Greenhouse gas emissions at Elon continued their decline in fiscal year 2010 from baseline measurements taken by the university in 2008. That reduction is the primary finding of the 3rd annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory released this month.

Community on the Commons not only started the school year off right but was also a great success for sustainability at Elon. This event was planned around the ability to compost or recycle all items provided with the meal.

Zipcar, in partnership with Ford, has announced its "Students with Drive" program where the company will award $300,000 to student groups at Zipcar schools.

Monthly themes are new this year to the Office of Sustainability. Each month a new topic will be chosen to concentrate on through our events, advocacy tactics and social media. We are asking students to also help spread the word and educate the others about the monthly theme by participating in events and living out the theme in their daily lives.

The 8th annual Elon University Fall Environmental Forum, a conference for leaders, builders, developers, educators and students “with a vision for a sustainable community,” takes place Oct. 30-31 in McKinnon Hall with some of the biggest names in the regional green economy scheduled to share their experiences.
