Center for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning

The CATL Teaching and Learning Grants program supports innovative teaching and learning projects. We had a record number of applications this year and were able to fund approximately 50 percent of the requests.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning has named Elon University faculty members Michelle Trim, David Neville and Ketevan Kupatadze as CATL Scholars for 2011-2013. The selection process was highly competitive, with 10 faculty applying for the three positions.

On Oct. 14, Christopher Waters, assistant CIO and director of teaching and learning technologies, and Scott Hildebrand, assistant director of teaching and learning technologies, presented at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

On October 18, Maggie Castor, a junior philosophy major, and Peter Felten, assistant provost for teaching and learning, along with Mark Meacham, a teacher at Williams High School in Burlington, presented an invited talk at the University of Glasgow.

First-year college students do most of their writing via text messaging and social networks, but it’s not always a type of writing they say they most value, according to new research co-authored by a team of Elon University professors. That leads to the next questions in what promises to be an ongoing project: why do they value what they value, and how can academia catch up with their use of writing technologies?
