Identical twins Liam and Julien Dupas brought their Atlanta-rooted passion for filmmaking to Elon University, where scholarships, mentorship, and hands-on programs helped them launch a production company, earn festival recognition, and land real-world industry experience.

A team of School of Communications students oversaw the Broadcast Education Association’s Best of Festival Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, managing all aspects of the live April 19 event. The experience paired high-level production work with the opportunity to meet renowned cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins.

Students in the yearlong documentary film production program gained behind-the-scenes access to Durham’s Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, one of the world’s leading showcases for nonfiction cinema.

During a study abroad program in Prague, Alex McCollum ’27 produced a short film as part of an intensive, hands-on filmmaking experience. The project has since gained traction on the festival circuit, earning multiple honors and nominations.

Co-produced by the Elon graduate, the feature documentary will screen at the 28th RiverRun International Film Festival in Winston-Salem on Saturday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m. and Friday, April 24, at 5 p.m.
